‘Ben Edwards’ Artist Profile

I am a musician and artist, born in Sydney, Australia and raised in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. I began performing publicly in bands and taking part in art exhibitions as a teenager in the Blue Mountains. Later I studied music, film and arts at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, at the same time becoming actively involved in the Sydney live music, film and visual art scenes. I moved to Bangkok in late 2008, where I have continued to make music (most notably with the band Basement Tape), paint and make short experimental films.

My painting is influenced visually by the op art and pop art movements of the 1950s and 60s, as well as by expressionist art of the early 20th century and some surrealism. I’m also strongly influenced by DIY movements in art and music throughout the world.

‘Femme Fatale Art Exhibition Profile

‘Femme Fatale’ is an exhibition of paintings and drawings of seductive and mysterious women, created in Bangkok over the past two years. The paintings were inspired mainly by film noir movie stills and film posters, graphic art on the covers of 60s espionage novels, and by title sequences of classic old thrillers and spy TV shows. Whether sitting with a guitar, standing with a gun or just frozen in a moment of mystery, nothing is quite as it seems with the femme fatales.
